I am Thankful for Family History

I grew up watching both of my grandmothers working on family history and even remember spending time in front of a microfiche or film machine looking at old records. I have always been fascinated with family history but never knew where to start since so much of my work was done and I didn't think starting where they left off (centuries ago) would be a good starting point. I got married and learned that only one side of Mike's family work has been worked on so I knew that his line would be where I got my toes wet. The only problem was time. I have a very busy life and going to a research center was not in my schedule. A month ago I decided to start using the churches online family history pages to start working on it. The fact that it is on a computer and easier to start and stop grabbed my attention. I found plenty of how to guides and I have really gotten into it. I love the puzzle work that is involved but most of all I love getting to see that these are real people. Farmers, Doctors, Mothers and most of all family. My grandma is letting me use her ancestry.com account to help me out too. I really am thankful that I am able to work on this and discover our roots.

Here are the links if anyone is wanting to work on family history.

I am thankful that the Science Project is done

Sigh, that was a long weekend. I now know more about how light bends and travels than I ever wanted to know. Why can't they have Music fair projects. I could rock that so hard. I do enjoy getting to see just how smart Beau is and learn with him as we put everything together. THis year was on why the sky turns colors during the sunrise and sunset and it was really cool getting to recreate that with just a tub of water and a few tablespoons of milk. I hope he does well with the project but even if he doesn't I know that we have a good time.

I am thankful for........

The look my husband gives me when I stand up and he just looks me up and down and exhales while winking. I only say this because it happens a lot and in fact happened just an hour ago when he stopped by my office. A girl can never see that look in her mans eye enough. You know the one I am talking about. The twinkle that only he has for you and it makes you see yourself for just that moment the way that he does and you feel like a queen. That is what I am thankful for today.

I am thankful for the internet

Cheesy I know but I really am. Today alone I have used the internet to organize my budget, look at my bank stuff, check pricing on pull ups for better price, Coupons, pinterest, connecting with friends, preparing for our youth activity tonight and to waste time. I also use the internet to relax, research, have fun, become enlightened and to build my mind. Lots of possibilities for this great thing. I hate that it gets such a bad rap because people choose to use it for darker purposes and to tear themselves down but I am thankful that it was created and that I use it for the purpose God intended.

I am thankful for my level head

It came in handy when I came home and found my entire food storage supply of seasonings and powdered creamer all over the kids playroom. I won't lie, a child was harmed in the making of this picture and he was them made to help clean it and then sent to bed. However, he did not get nearly the crap that I was feeling. I am still not at the laughing at it part but I am able to see the humor. Sigh, it was a long night.

I am thankful for productive weekends

I am a busy woman but in the past month things have gotten crazy. I am amazed at how insane my life has felt lately and things had to start being put off for another time. Well, I am the type of person that when I see things start to build up on my to do list and don't see them getting marked off I go into meltdown mode. This weekend helped a lot. I decided that no matter what I was going to get some stuff off my list and I did just that. With the help of my Handy Dandy Michael!

Ok, I did not get anything done on friday but purchase some stuff for my current craft/gift projects and I took the rest of the day to relax with the love of my life and 3 crazy kids. Saturday was a different story. I woke up and did some laundry and then headed over to a friends house to spend the entire day (did not know it would take that long) making Princess's Christmas present from me. It is a rag doll that is supposed to look like a lalaloppsy doll. It was a fun day and I hope that she loves it. I then went grocery shopping and came home to get started on the rest of my saturday list. Mike and I canned 5 quarts of chili and 2 quarts of beans, organized our pantry and pulled everything for the next days canning out and got it ready. On sunday I took advantage of the extra hour and woke up early and canned 15 pints of chicken and 1 pt of black beans. I also (with mike's help) hung up our Family Home Evening board I had made and our new Menu Board. I also put up our Tree of Thanksgiving and got the kids caught up on each leaf of the month so far (we were 6 days behind) and had a good FHE Lesson with them on giving thanks. We went to church and then came home and had a wonderful dinner with some friends and I got caught up on a month of coupons that needed to be clipped.

I feel much better knowing these things are done and that I can focus on the rest of my list. The days of thanksgiving are really helping me focus on what is most important and on that note I would like to share the scripture from our FHE yesterday.

Doctrine and Covenants 136 verse 28
If thou art merry praise the Lord with singing, with music, with dancing, and with a prayer of praise and thanksgiving.

I am thankful for our Parents

Mike and I were both blessed by wonderful parents. They are always there to help when we need it and have always let us be on our own. Mike and I married while still very young and had Beau 11 months later so we knew that we would need to take advantage of all the help and knowledge that we could get. I chose today to write about parents because at this moment my mom is wrestling with Princess and Link for the second day in a row while schools are out and I am at work. She is doing this while working on the repair work at her house but when she greets her grandkids they would never know that she has anything on her mind but them. Mike's parents are the same way and it really makes a mom feel happy to know that there are so many people in the world to love and care for her kids.

I am thankful for Nyquil

More specifically I am thankful for modern medicine. I am fighting off a really bad sore throat and cold and I take modern medicine for granted every time I am sick or in pain. I am all for trying home remedy's but there is a reason that God allowed medicine to progress from slapping a leach on you and praying you make it through the night. Mothers don't have to worry about whether or not the baby or mother will make it through birth, a cut no longer means amputation and I don't have to toss and turn all night because my throat hurts. People knock modern medicine all the time but without it life expectancy would still be like 40 and I would be only 9 years from death so, yeah, thanks medicine peeps!

I am thankful for my Nook

Sad, I know but I truly love my nook. I never go anywhere without it and it is rarely more than a few feet from me. I am an avid reader and fought the ereader for a long time until my husband got one for me for christmas last year and I fell in love. I have books at my fingertips and I don't have to lug around a bunch of books when I go on trips. Plus the apps are pretty helpful too. My favorite part of my nook is that I can download books from my library from home and not have to worry about late fees or any of that. I also love the read to me books for kids. The kids love these books and will read along with the nook and play the interactive games too. This is the most important gadget in my life. I might leave home without my phone by accident but it has yet to happen with my nook.

A Month of Thanksgiving

I know I did this last year but I saw the challenge on a friends blog and since I have been in an emotional slump lately I decided to do it again. Each day (let's face it about one a week) this month I will post something that I am thankful for in my life. Here is today.

I am thankful for my friends. They know who they are and they also know that they are few in numbers. I am a very private person and though I am very loud and out there on the top layer I am a shy person on the inside. I have friends that don't let me hermit myself too much and for that I am thankful. Sometimes a girl needs someone besides her husband to talk about lifes trials with and so it is important to have the type of friends that I do. The ones that will listen and tell you if you are being stupid or just let you vent while they remember that chocolate and vicks vapo rub will cure any of your problems if just for a moment. I don't open up much but even getting random texts or emails are what I need to remember that when I do need to open up they are there for me. Thank you, friends, you have no idea how often in my life you have been needed and though I never told you at the time you saved me on those times.
